Something bad happened the day before the pageant
trivia:
On August 22, Jewel Selver representing Turks & Caicos withdrew from the pageant due illness, only 83 contestants competed the final on August 23.

But here`s a rare incident:
Stefanía Fernández, Miss Venezuela, was crowned Miss Universe 2009 by outgoing titleholder Dayana Mendoza who was also from Venezuela.
